Product Description
This Electric Bass combo is the ideal kit for the beginning musician. This full size Electric Bass has 20 frets and a great looking basswood body. It features split P-B P/U pickups, and the combo includes a gig bag, carrying strap and a 10 watt Bass Amp. It includes everything you need to get started. The 10 Watt amp is suitable for practice or even small events. This beginner's combo also makes a great gift!

3 out of 5 stars Good beginners set, but you can find better   May 30, 2010

For the sake of organization I'll divide this review up into the components of what the purchase includes.

1. The Bass Guitar - First off, it's 43" long, meaning it is just 4" short of being a full sized adult bass. I've played a wide range of basses and can say this one buzzes too easily. Even if your finger is micrometers away from the fret it buzzes. It's also made in China, and they apparently got lazy on the E string because it was threaded improperly, but odd enough the rest of the strings were perfectly fine, but seeing as they were factory strings, I did indeed replace them not soon after getting it. The frets hung over the neck a tiny bit and I scratched myself moving my fingers up the neck, but it was fixed after I filed them down. Also, the scratch guard had a few smudges on it, but nothing major. Other than that, I have no complaints. It works with different amps, sound is alright, it's fairly easy to replace the strings, even if you've never done it before, but I wouldn't recommend using it to play live. This is for the practice room and beginners, and maybe kids (but not all, remember it's 43" long).

2. The Amp - There are two ports (input and phones) and four knobs (Volume, Treble, Middle, and Bass). However, moving the effects knobs around doesn't create much of a noticeable difference, except for the bass. It's only 10 watts, so you're limited in how loud it can get without hurting your ears, but it does get a good grade for portability. The input cable that's provided does it's job, but for those of you who like thicker cables with neat designs on them, you're out of luck here. Personally I don't really care how the cable looks as long as it works, and this one certainly does its job. It's pretty straight forward to use.

3. The Accessories - The case it comes protects it good if you're careful about how you move it around. However it isn't a padded case, just one ply vinyl. It's also somewhat of a tight fit for the bass, so if you plane on any travel with it, you'll want to get a better one. It also came with a little sack with picks, two Allen wrenches, and a spare G string (laugh now if you must). What you do with the picks and the string, I don't care, but DO NOT lose the Allen wrenches. You will need them to replace the strings and unless you have a full set of Allen wrenches, you won't be able to replace the strings. The strap... well the strap wasn't in the box so I can't really say anything about it, but when I contacted Austin Bazaar about it they were very nice and offered me a discount on my next purchase.

The bottom line is that this a beginners kit at its core. There are cheaper kits out there, but this one had fantastic quality. However if you're willing to spend more money I'd overlook this for other, better guitars. All in all, a good price for what you get.
